The Okaiken Self-Defense Forces (自衛隊 Jieitai ), or OSDF, occasionally referred to as OSF or ODF, are the unified military forces of Okaiken that were established after the end of the Quiet Revolution. For most of the Republican period the OSDF was confined to the islands of Okaiken and not permitted to be deployed abroad. In recent years they have been engaged in international peacekeeping operations. Recent tensions, particularly with the People's Republic of Peilan, have reignited the debate over the status of the OSDF and its relation to Sanese society. New military guidelines, announced in December 2010, will direct the Jieitai away from its domestic focus to a focus on PRP, especially regarding the dispute over the Ameka Islands.
